Kawaii Confessions Episode 1: Classic Lolita - Learn How to Sew B****

We hosted the first episode of our podcast, Kawaii Confessions: Learn How to Sew B****, and it was more carefree than we could have ever imagined. Our first guest was Justyn, a sister of Star Twix Nails, who primarily wears Classic Lolita. In our interview, she shared that her coord was inspired by a specific photo of Princess Peach in place of the subject in The Swing, painted by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Interestingly, this painting was made during the Rococo period, which is a major influence on Classic Lolita. Of course, you'll have to watch the episode to hear about the hidden detail in her look and her extracurricular activities outside of Lolita fashion. Above all, we highlight the importance of learning how to sew! Sewing is neither easy nor cheap at first, but it pays off in the end. Imagine building your own Harajuku closet just the way you want it. Sewing is truly a dream skill that just takes practice.

Our Favorite Part

It's hard to say what my favorite parts of this nail set are because every nail is unique, offering a different aspect of Justyn's coord. However, a few nails immediately grab your attention: both thumbs, the beetle nail, and the lace nail. The thumbs are sculptural feats I had never tried before. It was my first time using a gel with the consistency of cottage cheese for the 3D roses, and the intricacies of the chrome vase detailing were unexpectedly gorgeous.

I had been seeing trends of porcelain beetle nails, and I finally got to give it a go! It was so much easier than I thought it would be, yet it looks exceptionally beautiful. You can't take your eyes off it!

Lastly, the very simple old lace nail is my unexpected favorite. It's simple but elegant. You can feel the warmth and age of the nail, and it's simple nails like this that pull an entire set together. The sparseness of the glitter adds another aged element. I do wish I had stained the white lace though. I used a watercolor palette to create a coffee-stain look, and I'm never going back! Forget the inks; it's watercolor only for me.

I hope you enjoyed this quick breakdown of the set and can see the intense care and precision that went into it!
